Aimée’s arrival

Michelle woke around 2:00 am with contractions. She didn’t want to wake me right away in case they would disappear… So at 2:45 I awoke to her having a pretty intense one. At this point they were 8-10 minutes apart. We got up and had something to eat and they disappeared for about 30 minutes, so we decided to return to bed. They started back up and were again about 10 min apart for about an hour… So we called our midwife, her mom and her sister for some help with our two other girls. After a few hours and the pain intensifying, we made our way to the hospital around 9:00 am.

Michelle laboured naturally with no medication to alleviate pain. To see her suffering almost brought me to my knees a few times… Luckily her mom was strong and helped me stay strong. At 11:53 am, our Aimée arrived weighing 8 lbs. 2 oz. We are proud parents of the loveliest little creature 🙂

Week 40 – Due date long gone

Our due date of April 3rd has come and gone. Now we wait (Im)patiently for the baby to make her way out. The midwife says that Michelle’s cervix is soft, we just need to work on getting her oxytocin levels up by stimulating a few different ways… The oxitocin will encourage the uterus to contract and squeeze this baby out.

Today, we sent our equivalent of two big men with bats to give Aimée her eviction notice – a cervical sweep and reflexology.

In two days, if things haven’t progressed, we will make our way to the hospital to determine if it is necessary to induce labour or wait some more… Until then, cheers!

Pregnant Forever

So, we’re nearing the big day and all we keep saying to each other is that it feels like she’ll be pregnant forever. At 39 weeks, we can’t even imagine if we’ll even believe labour has even set in when the time comes. We’ll just look at each other and debate. Now? Are we sure? Nah, it’s probably just Braxton hicks. Friday is the due date, but honestly I feel like the due date could be next year.

Stay in there! :)

I’m finishing my last week of work out of town. Hearing about Michelle’s cramping and aches has me concerned about being so far from home. In fact, the latest is that she had some strong cramping which actually pushed the baby lower into the pelvis. The baby didn’t like that hahah… Apparently she immediately struggled and stirred and managed to wedge herself back up higher. She’s waiting for daddy. I have everything packed up and ready to go for a last minute getaway… Just wait for daddy 🙂

 Week 35 – Exhausted

Michelle is getting period-like cramps lately. She went into the midwife and ran some tests but all is fine. A bunch of online posts describe this as just the body getting ready to deliver… Softening the cervix and allowing the baby to drop down.

She saw an elder who happened to father many babies and delivered hundreds if not thousands as a labour and delivery nurse. He thinks she has no more than 3 weeks to go… And honestly I have been thinking the same. He said women go through a heavy exhaustion, then a boost of energy before labour. I place my bet on March 20th.

Week 31 – Nursery

We had a great day today. We started at Walmart, where typically we go for the sale item which is never in stock… So we then decided to go to Sears, where it seems they over price items except for the one they want to sell you (which happens to be the only one in stock)… But it was in our price point and we wanted one today.

We spent the afternoon assembling the crib and decorating the nursery for our little bird.

We are so happy and excited that she is coming soon.
